Soaring temperatures on the hottest day of the year so far did not stop hundreds from flocking to the annual Wilmslow Show.
Tatton MP Esther McVey joined young and old as they came together to enjoy the 106th show, which included activities ranging from zorbing to the Scarecrow Competition.
Ms McVey said: “A great time was had by all. It is an amazing community event and it was lovely to meet new people and see familiar faces too.”
Together with show Chairman Angela McPake, Ms McVey judged the Scarecrow Competition on behalf of the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean, with the Post Office’s entry Postman Pat securing first place. The School Prize was won by Gorsey Bank.
Ms McVey spent time walking around the stands including the Handforth Model Engineering stand, where she had a trip on a model steam train, driven by member John Coglan before meeting the Knutsford and Wilmslow First Responders and hear about the work they were doing in support of the Ambulance Service.
The MP also presented prizes on behalf Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Horticultural and Rose Society and the Macclesfield and East Cheshire Branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society in the Horticultural Marquee.
She added: “It was a privilege to be asked to judge and give out prizes and I am still fascinated that some of the cacti exhibited were over 40 years old and getting better with age.”
The heat meant that not all the animal acts were able to perform and organisers rearranged the set up to ensure animals were in the shade
