There is little doubt that there are lots of roads that need resurfacing in Wilmslow, and in this ward in particular.
The Labour leader of Labour/Independent run Cheshire East Council is on record as saying that the more complaints about a road the Council the receive, the more likely it is to get resurfaced or repaired. Whilst road repairs shouldn’t be some sort of popularity contest, we are trying to see if that is the case. If it is– and it works– we can then use the passion of local residents to get other roads repaired as well.
We are starting with Chapel Lane (from Bourne Street to Oak Lane) as it desperately needs repair, it has residents and businesses on it and it is a bus route; all of which should mean it is a priority. That currently doesn’t appear to be the case. It is also the road that most local residents use every day.
Your local Conservative Town Councillors, Julie Dawn Potts and Angela McPake and Town Council candidate, Abdullah Al Faruk and Hannan Sarwar have a plan! We have already worked with local businesses to help highlight the issues and we have run a campaign on Facebook to encourage as many local residents as possible to report the road on the Cheshire East system.
That has given us some early success as Cheshire East Council have now been down to mark the road ahead of repairing the potholes. We want more though!
Our push now is to try to get the road fully resurfaced instead.
Filling the worst holes is a stop gap and already there are other areas of the road that are damaged and starting to form new holes.
To that end, MP Esther McVey has written to Cheshire East to ask them to look at the economic case for resurfacing once against filling potholes multiple times. It would be great if local residents could support that call. To do that, please go online at
https://fixmystreet.cheshireeast.gov.uk and highlight that that the road surface around the larger potholes is also crumbling; or write to Esther’s office and she will collate the comments and feed them directly into the Council.
If we can succeed with Chapel Lane, we will, as Town Councillors, be working with local residents, and Esther, to address other roads in need of repair.
In addition; Cheshire East are currently proposing to charge for green bin collections and to reduce library opening hours (despite them being Warm Hubs); they are being discussed at an upcoming budget meeting and we will update you.
