AN MP is supporting a campaign to keep local pubs open – knowing the value they bring to communities.
 
Tatton MP Esther McVey met with campaigners from Long Live the Local Campaign in Parliament to hear what measures government could adopt to help support the community hubs.
 
Ms McVey said: “Pubs are at the heart of communities across Tatton and we must do everything practical possible to support them.  Last summer I visited many pubs across the constituency meeting constituents as part of my pub tour surgeries and latterly I’ve been holding pub debates bringing ‘politics to the pubs’ engaging with the public on issues such as getting more bobbies on the beat. This resulted in Boris committing to hiring 20,000 more police officers.

“It is widely known pubs up and down the country are struggling and I have listened to the concerns of the campaigners and I will be passing on those concerns to my colleagues in the Treasury to ensure we try and support our local pubs.”
 

Across Tatton it is estimated the industry supports more than 2,000 jobs.
